Governance

Immanuel is a member church of
The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Louisville, KY;
the
National Capital Presbytery, Washington, DC;
and the
Mid-Atlantic Synod, Richmond, VA.
(The above links are to external websites.)

The pastors of Immanuel have come from a variety of service areas and over the years have offered a wealth of knowledge to the congregation. Associations are held with Union Theological Seminary in New York City, Union-PSCE in Richmond, VA, the Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, VA, and Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC.

In the Presbyterian Church (USA), the Session is the governing body of the congregation of a particular church. Session members are first ordained as elders of the church. They serve for an initial three-year term and may be elected for one additional three-year term. The congregation's Pastor is the moderator (chair) of the Session, and Associate Pastors also sit on the Session. Elders who have completed their service on the Session remain elders of the church, and their responsibilities as spiritual leaders continue.

Session members want to be fully accessible to our membership. Please do not hesitate to contact any or all of them to share your concerns -- and your joys too.
