Becoming a Member
We look forward to hearing from you!
We are delighted that you are considering making your connection to our church family "official." Whether or not you make the step to become a member here, please know that we are glad that you are beginning to become involved in the work and worship of Immanuel as we seek to live out the meaning of our name by embodying the love of God. No doubt you have already discovered that there are a host of opportunities to become meaningfully involved here.

We believe that vital involvement in a community of faith is more important than whether or not one’s name is on a membership roll. So our membership process seeks to emphasize ways that those who wish to join can become a vital part of what God is doing in, through, and beyond this congregation.
Our one-day Inquirer’s Class takes place several times a year on Saturday mornings or Sunday afternoons from 2-5. During this time, we examine what it means to be Immanuel (by reviewing our congregation’s particular mission and history), what it means to be Presbyterian (by emphasizing certain aspects of our religious tradition and our denomination’s form of government), and what it means to be church (by hearing from leaders of the various committees and ministry areas of our congregation).

On completion of that three hour class, a time is arranged for those who wish to join to meet with our Session to be received into membership and then to have that recognized in the context of a worship service. The Membership Committee also hosts a special social event (either a brunch or a wine and cheese party) to welcome the newly received into our midst.
If you are interested in joining Immanuel or learning more about what it means to become a member here, please talk to one of the pastors or call the church office (703) 356-3042.
