Immanuel’s Annual Auction is coming: Saturday March 13
It is that time again for fun, creativity, generosity and fellowship. The Auction is Immanuel’s big fundraiser in support of our Outreach Programs- local and international. Rabbi Berkowitz to Speak to Year of the Bible Class on Sunday -- All Welcome!
On Sunday, March 14, Laszlo Berkowitz, Retired Senior Rabbi and Temple Rodef Shalom in Falls Church, will address the Sunday morning Year of the Bible class (10:10 a.m.). Rabbi Berkowitz will share what it was like to be a Jew in Hungary during the years of Nazi power and oppression and how he emerged victorious over such cruelty and deprivation. He also will address questions raised by the class concerning the Old Testament.

March 17, Wednesday, The Strength of What Remains by Tracy Kidder, the remarkable story of a young man from Burundi who escaped terrible violence there and in Rwanda and managed to come to the US, earn a medical degree and ultimately return to serve his country. 


Real World-Real Faith 
On Sunday, March 21, Laura Kodres will be discussing how her work analyzing global financial markets at the International Monetary Fund and her faith intersect. One Sunday a month at 12:30, with a light lunch served, a member of our congregation will make a 20-minute presentation on their vocation, profession, hobby or interest and how their faith has guided their actions. 

Ladies Night Out
Let's celebrate St. Patrick's Day...a little after the fact! All are invited to the next outing at Ireland's Four Provinces (or The Four P's, if you're in the know) on Thursday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m. This restaurant is located in Falls Church at 105 W. Benefit Dinner for the Yellow Ribbon Fund
The Sr. High Sunday School Class is having a dinner to benefit the Yellow Ribbon Fund on Saturday April 10 at Immanuel from 6-9pm .  The catered dinner will include entertainment by classical and jazz musicians from Langley High School and the Potomac School as well as a guest speaker -- Mark E. Robbins, Executive Director from the Yellow Ribbon Fund. The Community Service and Action Committee provided a grant of $500 to IPC Youth to design and implement a service activity to benefit their greater community. The Sr. Highs chose to support the Yellow Ribbon Fund which provides transportation and housing for the families of wounded service member at Walter Reed and Bethesda Naval Hospital. Contact Frank Bennett for more information. Tickets (on sale soon) are $20 for students and $30 for adults.

Coffee Pot - Where Are You ?
If anyone borrowed one of the large 60-cup coffee pots, please return it. We are supposed to have four - two in the Meeting House and two in the Fellowship Hall.

Join in the Dreamer Valentine Fun -- Rescheduled Date TBA
The Immanuel Dreamers’ Valentine activity will be held on a TBA date in March in the Immanuel Meeting House. Dreamers will decorate cookies, make Valentines Day cards and prepare special gifts for Chesterbrook residents and others. For the first time, we will be joined by some friends from Chesterbrook Residences, and we'll do some storytelling about favorite Valentine's memories and more -- capturing some of that on video! And then we'll share some food before we leave Immanuel. We invite Immanuel families to help make this an especially fun day! If you’re interested in joining in, download flyer.

Calling in all LIBRARY BOOKS!
The Library Committee is searching for any outstanding library books that may be collecting dust on your home library shelves or bedside tables. If you have finished your book or maybe decided you are just not that interested in it anymore, please return it to the IPC Library located in the Session Room. And no worries, there are no fines for overdue books! If you have any questions, please contact Janet Tysse. 

Year of the Bible Has Begun
Whether a seasoned veteran, or someone new to this program, we are encouraging as many Immanuelites as possible to participate in this year’s “Year of the Bible” program where we support one another in an effort to read through the entire Bible in one year. Sixty-eight people are already signed up. A reading guide is provided and can be purchased for $5.00. If you have questions or would like more information, please speak to Dan Thomas. Yoga Is Back! 
After a successful first year, yoga classes have resumed. This year there will be two classes: Beginning/Intermediate (9:15-10:45 am) which will be an extension of last year’s class and Gentle Yoga (11:15-12:15) for those who are completely new to yoga or would like proceed a bit more slowly. The first class is free for newcomers, and we encourage you to invite your friends and neighbors. Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of knitters and crocheters who create shawls for those in need of comfort. Everyone is welcome! If you do not knit or crochet, we'll teach you. If you just want to come to learn more about the group, please join us. We meet the third Saturday of the month from 2:00 to 4:00 at the home of various members. 


SHARE has had a sharp increase in demand for all of its services (food, clothing, furniture delivery, emergency financial assistance with rent and utilities). If you would like to make a donation of non-perishable food staples (e.g. peanut butter, jelly, cooking oil, tomato sauce), it can be dropped off at the SHARE Food Room located at McLean Baptist Church (follow the signs). If you have any furniture "basics" in good condition, SHARE makes pick-ups on Saturdays. Call the Furniture Hotline at (703)448-1054 and leave a message; a volunteer will return your call. Please contact MaryBeth Emmons with any questions. 

Immanuel now has its own Facebook group: Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McLean, Virginia. It’s easy to become a part of it. If you already have a Facebook profile, go to the page and click on the icon that says "become a fan."  If you don’t have a Facebook profile, simply go to Facebook and follow the directions to sign up (it’s free to be a member). Then enter the words "Immanuel Presbyterian Church in McLean, Virginia" into the search engine at the top right and click on "become a fan." We hope that this will be a fun way to for Immanuelites to get to know each other better. Members are encouraged to post photos, events, comments, and links. There is also a discussion board that will serve as a blog. The Immanuel Youth also have their own page on Facebook: Immanuel Presbyterian Church Youth & Friends.
