What's New?
Summer worship hours have begun
There is one service at 10:00 a.m., with Summer Church School for Pre-school through Grade 3 at 10:10 a.m., June 22nd–September 7th (children will attend worship service and then be dismissed for Church School).
Phone volunteers needed for summer
Volunteers are needed to help answer the church office phone this summer, Monday – Friday, from 11:00 am – 2:00 p.m. The work is easy, and you will almost always have time to work on something else while at the phone desk (read that novel, finish crocheting that hat…). If you are available to help out one or more days, please contact Ingrid Rosenberg or Tracey Daniels at the church.
Summer Choir has begun
Adults and youth (grades 7-12) are invited to attend the 9:00 a.m. rehearsal in the Music Room and sing for the 10:00 a.m. service on Sundays through July. Please note, there are no evening rehearsals, so if you have weeknight conflicts, this is a great opportunity to experience the camaraderie, fellowship and music of the choir.
Summer Sunday Adult Class has begun
“Spirituality 101” is the theme of an Adult Ed Class that will be held on Sunday mornings during the summer from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. The class will focus on a series of lessons on spirituality from our denomination’s electronic adult education curriculum, The Thoughtful Christian, and will be taught by the pastors. A class schedule and paper copies of each lesson can be picked up in the foyer of the church. They will also be available electronically from Tracey Daniels.
Over-the-counter medicines being collected for Peru Mission Trip
On July 11th, Aaron and eight other Immanuelites will be revisiting the foothills of the Andes to worship, pray, faith share, work and participate in fellowship with members of the Moyobamba Presbyterian Church. Many of you met Pastor David MacPherson and Leslie Silva-Vargas during their visits to Immanuel earlier this year.
If you would like to participate by bringing in needed over-the-counter medicines for the people of this region, there will be donation baskets in Fellowship Hall and The Meeting House available for your contributions on July 6th. Please check to make sure that the medicines are neither opened nor expired. These medicines are not affordable to most Peruvians and will be distributed by the San Lucas Clinic which serves the poor of Moyobamba.
Medicines particularly needed are the following: Advil, Motrin, Tylenol, Aspirin, Cold Medicines, Cough Medicine, Vitamins (Children’s, Prenatal and Adult), Neosporin, Band Aids, Antacids, Kwell, Nix.
Also, if you know of someone who has an older laptop computer (in working order) that they might like to donate, please contact either Aaron or Paul Erickson. The group will be taking these computers to the Annie Soper Christian School. Thank you.

Help needed for summer children's programs
Before we know it, summer will be here. Help is needed to staff our two major Summer Children’s Education Programs. We still need many volunteers to staff our Vacation Bible School. This includes youth who would like to help as shepherds and classroom assistants. Our school runs the week of August 11th-15th from 9:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Or on a more weekly basis, please sign up to teach a session or two of Summer Church School. To volunteer, speak to Dan or Jane Renshaw. A sign-up board for Summer Church School is also located in the rear of the Fellowship Hall.

Immanuel Book Group Schedule Change
The June meeting of the Immanuel Book Group has been cancelled. The group will get together again on Wednesday, July 9th, at 11:45 a.m. in the Meeting House. The book will be Infidel, by Ayaan Hirsi Ali. This is a memoir by the controversial Somali woman who was raised in a Muslim family and lived in Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, and then settled in the Netherlands, where she fought for the reform of Islam and the rights of Muslim immigrant women as a member of Parliament. As a counterbalance to her story, some may wish to read also the book Who Speaks for Islam?, which surveys people in 35 predominantly Muslim nations on their beliefs, attitudes toward the West, the role of women, and many other issues that Hirsi Ali brings to light in her memoir. We would welcome any volunteers who would like to lead that discussion.

Immanuel has started a Prayer Shawl Ministry in which members of the congregation knit or crochet shawls for people on our concerns list. The second meeting of the Prayer Shawl Ministry will be held on Saturday, July 12th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the home of Rhea Eglin. All are welcome — knitters and non-knitters. We have plenty of good teachers.

Youth and their families are invited out to The Hamlet Swim Club (8209 Dunsinane Ct., McLean) on Saturday, July 12th, 1-3 p.m. for food and fun! Volunteers needed to record church services on CD
Volunteers are needed to help with the recording of church services so that we can continue to offer online audio sermons. This job does not require much technological know-how, just a basic comfort level with working a recording machine. Training will be provided. If you are interested, please e-mail Tracey Daniels at the church.
