Elements of Worship
Worship at Immanuel
Ever wonder about our worship services...what purpose the different parts serve, how they relate to our faith? Click here to go to some Biblical texts about worship.
Worship is our way of collectively expressing our relationship to God and to each other as God's people. In worship, we seek to discover God's will for us, to experience God's presence within and among us, and to gain guidance and strength for our ministries as followers of Jesus Christ.
The Worship Committee has two major tasks: Working with our pastors, we do part of the preparation for worship. We prepare the elements for communion, decorate the church for special services and seasons, invite guest speakers and ask members to assist with worship.
Secondly, and the primary business of our meetings, is to discuss and evaluate our worship
together as a congregation, and to make proposals to the Session about our worship needs.
All of us have ministries. Our ministry of music is a special joy as our choirs lead us in praising God.
Our pastors are called to the special ministry of teaching and of equipping us for the work of ministry. At each worship service, one of our pastors reflects on readings from scripture, the heritage of thousands of years of human spiritual experience with God's action in history, and applies those lessons to the life we face today.
We are dedicated to substantial leadership of worship by lay persons. In each service we publicly share our celebrations and concerns with one another, praying together both silently and aloud, individually and collectively.
Together, we share our celebrations and our concerns. We sing praise to God. We read the inspired words of the Bible and listen for the Word of God. We go forth to serve, to love, and to do justice.
